On the Edge of Sanity: Secrets of Kinksmouth

Today, we are sharing development details of DLC 2, Kinky Field Trip, and taking a closer look at its core mechanics.
As you already know, this expansion takes us to Kinksmouth, a dark and mysterious city that was only hinted at in our game. After their session, our trio of main characters ends up not at a resort, but deep in the heart of a forgotten place ruled by ancient gods, tangled in cultist schemes, and inhabited by local “wildlife” that is more than eager to get acquainted with newcomers.
In this whirlwind of events, you as the player gain access to new and critically important states that directly affect survival and story progression:
🧠 Sanity

Sanity represents the fragility of the characters’ minds and their ability to stay grounded.
Each turn, any action on the map, such as traveling to a district or taking part in an activity, costs at least 1 point of Sanity. You are standing at the epicenter of disturbing events that slowly but surely erode the heroes’ mental state.
When Sanity drops to critically low levels, the “On the Edge” effect appears. Characters begin to see strange things, and it is not always clear whether they are real. If Sanity reaches 0, the character completely loses their mind and consciousness, vanishing into eternal emptiness. This counts as a defeat and forces you to restart from the first day of the final week.
So how do you survive in this dangerous place? Luckily, it is simple. Do what we love most 😏
Sex quickly restores Sanity.
Special pills also help. Sanity Stabilizers instantly restore part of the meter when used. You can buy them from characters or find them in the shop.
☄️ Despair

Catastrophe reflects the influence of ancient evil in Kinksmouth. Unlike Sanity, it increases with every turn, relentlessly pushing events toward something terrifying and inevitable. Someone, or something, is putting a sinister plan into motion step by step. When the Catastrophe meter fills completely, disaster strikes. This is another defeat condition that sends you back to the first day of the final week.
Can this be stopped? Yes, it can. But first, you need to find out who is behind it all.
🕵️ Day 7 Investigation

Each week, you will untangle a web of conspiracies and incidents. Across the city, you will discover clues such as items, notes, strange situations, and the consequences of past decisions.
All collected clues appear on a special screen, the investigation board. The more evidence you gather, the more connections open up, revealing new and critically important information.
Every Sunday, you must answer several fate-defining questions: Who is the traitor? Who is behind the sabotage? whose actions are pushing Catastrophe closer? Use the evidence board and deduction to uncover the truth. Every correct answer pushes Catastrophe back, buying the city and the world a little more time.
